Historical OverviewGrace Lye was born 25 April 1852 in Haselbury Plucknett, Somerset, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Lye and Rosanna Brown. When Grace was young, her family moved several kilometers away from her birth town to the small town of Crewkerne.
By late 1874 Grace converted to the Mormon Church and in September of that year Grace immigrated to the United States to meet up with the majority of Mormons in Utah.

September 1874 - Departure & Immigration to United StatesBy September 1874 Grace came in contact with Mormon missionaries and converted to the Mormon Church. She decided she wanted to join the majority of the other members of the Mormon Church in Utah, so in early September 1874 she left without anyone else in her family for the 8-9 day voyage to the United States.
