Edward Webb Phillips and Ann Drinkwater were married on 21 December 1844, just a couple days before Christmas. They were married in St. Mary de Lode in Gloucester. The marriage record showed Edward was a minor, but Ann was of "full age." They were both living in the parish of St. Mary de Lode at the time of the marriage. Edward was working as a Waterman at the time of the marriage.

In 1880 Edward and Ann were living in West Porterville, Morgan County, Utah Territory. This was a very small community north east of Salt Lake City. As the Mormon pioneers continued to come to Utah, many of them spread out across the state.
