Ole Soren (front-left holding the drum sticks) was my 3rd-great grandfather. He was born 5 October 1842 in Oppland, Norway. He immigrated to the United States prior to the Civil War. During the Civil War he was a drummer boy. He later migrated to Utah where he died on 19 February 1902 in Salem, Utah County, Utah.
Ole was very musical throughout his life and later played in the Salem Silver Band. This band owned a dance hall where the old Salem Fort was once located and played for dances there a number of years around 1890. This photo was likely taken in the 1890s.
